Oil & gas packages
Power packages developed around hazardous-area project requirements.
Oil and gas installations place additional demands on generator packaging, materials, access, controls and documentation. Patsons reviews the area classification and project specification before integrating the required hazardous-area equipment and package features.
Design basis
Area classification must be defined by the project
Patsons can integrate flameproof and hazardous-area components into custom packages, but the project owner or appointed engineer must provide the area classification, gas group, temperature class, equipment protection level and applicable standards.
Those inputs drive equipment selection, junction boxes, glands, isolators, instrumentation, ventilation and surface-temperature considerations. A generic “Zone 2” note is not enough to release a package for manufacture.
Package considerations
Coordinate mechanical and electrical protection
Certified components
Select motors, lights, junction boxes, glands, instruments and isolators for the stated zone and gas group.
Fuel & containment
Define tank construction, vents, drains, spill control and safe filling arrangements.
Ventilation
Manage cooling and combustion air while respecting the classified-area design and gas-detection philosophy.
Hot surfaces
Address exhaust routing, insulation, guards and temperature limits identified by the project.
Emergency shutdown
Coordinate local and remote stops, fire-and-gas inputs, dampers and fuel isolation where specified.
Traceability
Maintain component certificates, data sheets and inspection records against the approved equipment list.
Enquiry checklist
Information required for a compliant technical review
- Generator rating, duty, voltage, frequency and load profile
- Hazardous-area classification drawing and project data sheet
- Gas group, temperature class and ambient design conditions
- Applicable client, EPC and international standards
- Acoustic, coating and corrosion-protection requirements
- Fire-and-gas, emergency-shutdown and remote-interface philosophy
- Inspection, third-party certification and documentation requirements
- Site layout, lifting, transport and maintenance constraints
Frequently asked questions
Technical questions, answered clearly
Final selections and compliance are confirmed against the project specification and approved technical submittal.
Can Patsons supply Zone 2 generator packages?
Patsons can develop generator packages with specified Zone 2 equipment and interfaces. The exact area classification, gas group, temperature class, standards and certification boundary must be provided and agreed.
Does one ATEX component make the complete generator ATEX certified?
No. A component certificate applies to that component and its stated conditions. The certification or conformity route for the complete assembly must be defined in the project scope.
Can custom tanks and drip trays be included?
Yes. Fuel tanks, containment and drains can be engineered into the package, subject to capacity, material, code, test and client requirements.
What should be included with an oil and gas enquiry?
Send the generator data sheet, area classification, hazardous-area parameters, project specifications, controls philosophy, coating requirement, inspection plan and site layout.
